Blog For Week Jan. 26

Prompt: What was going on through your head as you read?

Bobby is a kid who woke up one morning and found himself invisible so he can't go to school or see almost anyone. Bobby began missing school for weeks now because he hasn't turned visible yet. So people are starting to wonder and get suspicious on where he might be. From what I read so far there has been two people who have wondered where he is.

The school called asking where he has been. Bobby's mom made up a lie that he was sick the with the flu. She kept on this lie for weeks now. After three weeks they assumed he was just very sick. At this point I am thinking how much longer is the lying going to continue. I am also thinking what would happen if they found out Bobby's mom was lying.

A lady named Mrs. Pagett once came to their house and said she was an officer and is from the State Department of Children and Family Services. Since Bobby has been missing school for so long and hasn't had a doctor's note turned in, they needed to check on him to see if he was healthy. I don't want to tell you exactly what the mom did to get her away, but let's just say she is a great liar. While reading that part of the book I wonder what emotions was the mom was going through. Afraid? Worried? Mad? Shocked?

Blog for Week of Jan.19

Prompt: Write about a situation a character faces.
Pages Read: 12-71

In the book "Things Not Seen"by Andrew Clements, Bobby Phillips wakes up one day to find himself invisible. Some people might think that being invisible wouldn't be a problem, but reading this book made me realize that it is a lot harder than it sounds. Bobby being invisible is a huge problem, it also leads up to even more problems.

One problem that Bobby faces when he is invisible is hiding from people. Several times already in the book has he had to hide from people. There are two ways he hides from people. One way is to bundle up in clothes that covers everything. Another way is that he goes out, well lets just say, bare. While some people think Bobby is being suspicious from being covered head to toe indoors, others think it is completely normal because of the weather.

Relating to the first problem, Bobby also has to avoid people as much as possible including talking and bumping into someone. One time he bumped into a girl and the scarf he was wearing fell off and he was so scared that she might have noticed. He soon figured out that she was blind from the cane she was holding and by the way her eyes looked. Another time his neighbor made him cookies, and obviously he couldn't come out. So he made up a lie so, she just left them on the front porch about five feet away from the door. Bobby knew she did that just to see someone actually come out and take them. Bobby then got a robe and other things to make it look like a grown women to trick his neighbor into someone coming out.

Blog for Week of Jan. 12

Prompt: After reading, I wonder...

After reading the first chapter of Things Not Seen by Andrew Clements I have had so many questions already. In this book Booby wakes up, looks in the mirror and doesn't see himself. He tries to go back to sleep but can't. It is not a dream and he is not blind. When he tells his parents at first they think it is a prank. Then he grabbed a glass of orange juice and drank it, all they saw was a floating cup. They were so shocked and confused to see this.

I wonder if Bobby will ever be visible again? Most books usually end with happy endings. So when I first started reading this I automatically just knew he was going to turn back to normal. Then again, I could be wrong. If he does turn back visible, I wonder how he will do it and how long it took. I keep on thinking that this might just be a big dream but in the book they already said that it wasn't.

I also wonder if later in the book they say how he became like this? I haven't read far so I don't know if they have said it yet. Just out of nowhere he is invisible. There has to be a cause for this effect. There could be so many possibilities on what could have happened. Even his dad who is a physicist doesn't know how to solve this problem.

The First Time I...

Prompt: When was the last time you did something for the first time?

The last time I did something for the first time was friday when Mr. Foust, the music teacher, announced that we'd be learning how to play guitar in class. He started off by giving each of us a guitar, I got a small one. Next he showed us how to play a few chords and showed us the different parts of the guitar. After we got the hang of it he let us mess around with the guitars to try to get used to them.

When I got home I told my parents all about it. I told them how I might want to learn more on my own. When my dad heard this he told me that he might still have his old guitar somewhere. So we went to the basement to look for it. Sure enough there it was in a black padded case. He brought it upstairs and cleaned it up. Then he walked me through how to tune it. After it was all fixed up he started playing. I recognized a few of the notes we had learned in music class.

After my dad warmed it up for me he gave it to me to try. This one was much different from the one in music class because it was much bigger so it was harder for me to hold down each string while playing. When my dad saw that I was really interested in learning how to play he brought me some books that teach you how to play guitar and showed all the chords and notes. He then told me that if I wanted he could teach me. I can't wait to start learning more.
