Blog for Week Dec. 8

Prompt: Which character do you like least? Why?

In the book A Child Called "It" by Dave Pelzer, the mother of David abusing him so much and that's why I like her least. She slaps, punches and pushes him. David goes to school with cuts and bruises everyday. For David, school is the highlight of his day. He doesn't have to be with his mother and be hurt from her. Even if he didn't do anything bad, she would make up a lie and punish him for it. When he is asked why he has so many bruises, he would have made excuses that the mother told him to say.

David's mother doesn't just hit him, she also makes him go to school wearing the same smelly, worn out, dirty clothes to school. She always wants to embarrass him. What makes it worse is that she is so nice to the other kids, but to David it is the complete opposite. Some kids even say they wish that she could be their mother.

Another reason why I least like her is that she barely feeds him. For breakfast, he is lucky if he gets the leftover cereal from his bothers. For dinner she would "forget" to feed him. At night, all he thinks about is food because he is so hungry. When he does get food he has to eat it fast before she changes her mind and takes it away. She sometimes throws it away right in front of him.

  1. I agree, his mother is also my least favorite character. I read this book over the summer and it was disgusting to hear about a mother treating their child like this after it was her choice to give birth to him. If she was not ready to become a mom or at least treat David with respect she should have given him up for adoption. What part are you in the book?

  2. I read this book when I was younger and it had a profound impact on me.
